pretoria is perhaps the most racially tense city to which i’ve even been. if you see someone who is non-white, s/he occupies a role serving a white person.
that, in fact was the point of this photo. taken with the point-and-shoot i used prior to acquiring my coolpix 990 the next month, i could use only the viewfinder to frame the photo. i had planned to show the black man tending to the lawn as being held in by the fence. instead, the view of him is blocked by the fence. well, now that you know what the photo was supposed to represent, think about race relations wherever you live; realize that you can make a difference. let’s create a world community with justice for all, shall we?
